A Needed Technology Boost Without Breaking the Bank

As the use of technology in education continues to evolve, school districts are continually challenged to keep up with tech trends for their staff and students. When Haysville School District representatives met with First American’s Education team, their goal was clear: to provide students with updated technology in order to enhance their learning—but without significantly affecting their annual budget. Haysville hoped to implement a 1:1 program district-wide, but couldn’t manage buying technology every year due to its varying costs and timelines. They were looking for a flexible financing solution to sustainably refresh their technology, enhance their teaching resources, and improve their student learning experiences.

“Because technology is growing and changing so rapidly, it creates a lot of challenges for districts that are trying to bring in the latest and greatest who don’t want just one-time purchases.”

– Taylor Hastrich, Assistant Vice President, First American

“We had been wanting to go 1:1. We really needed to figure something out so that each student could have their own device and the First American technology refresh program worked perfect.”

– Misty Long, Website Coordinator, Haysville USD 261

Budget-Friendly 1:1 Program is a Winning Approach

Together, Haysville and First American developed a technology refresh program that allowed the school to acquire all the Chromebooks needed for their students at one consistent annual cost. By renting the devices instead of purchasing them outright, the school spread their payments out over time and benefited from a lower yearly cost. This shift in strategy allowed the district to accelerate their 1:1 initiative—rolling out the programs in middle schools and high schools years earlier than expected.

Haysville now fits the Chromebooks’ lease cost into each year’s technology budget, which can accommodate all equipment updates when they are needed.

First American Becomes an Extension of Haysville’s Team

Since the beginning of their relationship in 2018, Haysville and First American have continued working together on financing for several technology needs. The district’s accelerated plan for student technology now ensures that Haysville students have access to the “latest and greatest” devices, which in turn benefits their education every step of the way. The collaborative relationship has had a positive impact on Haysville’s technology strategies and will continue to improve students’ experiences for years to come.

“We view First American as an extension of our team on a regular basis. We were able to collaborate and share ideas and really problem solve to come up to the solution necessary for the district.”

– Dr. Clint Schutte, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance, Haysville USD 261
